Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Alan Leamey

Said the following about Lee Archacki:

“Lee was working on a railway bridge over a river when he spotted a male person who had climbed onto a bridge and was attempting to jump into the river.

Lee made his own job safe, and then went and spoke to the person. It quickly became apparent that this person was suicidal and a danger to themselves. Lee contacted the emergency services and sat with the person, comforting and listening to them until help arrived. Lee then had to overcome scorn from other members of staff who believed he shouldn't have intervened.

Lee demonstrated the very human qualities that make him a better person than most. He selflessly helped a fellow person in need.

Since this incident, staff in our office have attended Samaritan meetings in Manchester Square One to better understand the needs of suicidal people should we encounter them in the future.

Lee undoubtedly saved one person’s life, and through learning, maybe in the future we too can do the same.“
