Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Chris Gough

Said the following about Karl Maher:

“Karl is a Mobile Security Operative in the Kent area on the South East Route. Whilst Karl was on patrol at a Station with his co-worker late on a cold November night they came across a male on the station platform looking distressed standing close to the platform edge, they approached the male using their Samaritans training techniques asking the male if he was ok.

The male admitted to being suicidal and wanting to end his life, Karl and his co-worker immediately comforted the male taking him to a place of safety outside the station. They sat the male in their patrol vehicle to warm him up as he was shivering due to the cold weather conditions, they also offered the male hot food and drink and spent 2 hours talking to the male until BTP were able to take him to a hospital.

Karl and his co-worker went above and beyond their duties ensuring the male was safe and received the help he needed.“
