Said the following about Emma Venables:

“Emma arrived at the station to get a train to Winchester for Christmas shopping. The station was unusually completely empty. Emma noticed a lady on the Down Slow Line platform who was sat on the edge of the platform with her head looking down with her back to Emma. Emma went over to the lady to try and get some response from her but to no avail. Emma rang the signal box and advised them of situation they diverted trains away from Down Slow Line at the station and cautioned trains. Emma kept talking to the lady trying to get her talk. Initially the lady wouldn’t talk at all and then jumped onto the track. Emma was still in contact with the signal box and Emergency switch off was arranged just before the lady put here foot between the conductor rail and running rail. Emma followed the lady the length of the platform and kept trying to get the lady to talk her. Eventually the lady did start to talk to her and Emma managed to coax her on to the platform to seat and started to talk about her issues. This conversation continued for some considerable time and then for no apparent reason the lady turned to Emma and said I have to go now and walked off over the bridge back and out of the station. Emma followed lady out of the station and at that point the police arrived the lady was detained by the police and returned to place of safety.

Emma then returned to the station and go the train an hour later to continue her shopping.“
