“During the short time that Colin has been with us he has demonstrated true professionalism & dedication to his role of train driver again & again by consistently delivering excellent customer service & going what is well & truly above his role.
Colin dealt with an emergency incident whilst driving his train in February 2017. A passenger had alerted him that another passenger had been taken seriously ill on his train. After bringing his train to a stand Colin immediately went to assess the situation where he found that a gentleman was evidently having a heart attack.
He immediately advised our control & the signaller of the situation & arranged for an ambulance to attend the scene as a matter of urgency.
Colin could see that this was a life or death situation & it was at this point that he made a quick decision to take the matter into his owns hand & began to perform CPR on the gentleman. After some time the paramedics arrived at the scene & were able to assist him.
After 30 minutes of CPR & despite Colins best efforts the gentleman was pronounced dead.
Though out this highly pressurised situation Colin remain calm & professional at all times. He showed true compassion & heroism in a selfless act to save another.
He is a true champion & a worthy winner of this award.“
