Police Sergeant 7229 Jay BIBBY

Said the following about Becky THOMPSON:

“On a Monday in March 2017 both British Transport Police & Essex Police were conducting urgent enquiries in relation to a suicidal male and were deploying officers to various locations.

This information was unbeknown to Revenue Protection Inspector Becky THOMPSON who called me (PS 7229 BIBBY) to pass me some vital information. From our joint BTP / c2c briefings Becky remembered the code word I'd taught her to alert me to the severity of her situation and the urgent nature of the information.

In transpires that Becky had during the course of her job seen that a male was at the end of the platform and this had struck her as strange due to the fact trains don't stop there. Becky approached the male and began to engage him in conversation. It soon became apparent that this male was intent on taking his own life by jumping in front of a train and clearly didn't want any help. Becky did her upmost to calm the male and reassure him. However Becky knew the male didn't want Police called, yet managed to make a phone call and pass me the vital information without further upsetting the male or causing a sudden reaction and managed to do this whilst clearly being under a great deal of stress herself.

Becky was clearly being shaken up by the males mental state, yet did a brilliant job and from what Becky has since told me and my own experience this was a genuine suicide attempt and I believe she saved this man’s life with her swift professional actions.“
