Said the following about Trevor Brown:

“JUSTIFICATION

Trevor is one of the most qualified and competent members of staff at Wembley Traincare Centre with the ability to contribute positively to the business/depot direction on multiple fronts.

As a dual skilled technician of the highest level [G2], Trevor strives to keep the CL390 Pendolino fighting fit. It is unheard of for Trevor to give up on a challenge put in front of him. Intelligent and quick thinking often identifying and rectifying faults fast and to the highest quality first time around; when initial actions do not go as planned however, Trevor is keen to learn and adapt ready to overcome the problem the next time around.

Trevor is a technical trainer [he studied for this qualification in his own time]; the title now just allows him to put pen to paper. Even before he got his certificate to train, Trevor would often be observed coaching and mentoring his junior technicians in and out of his own work time. Trevor is also a Senior Authorised Person which involves his input and opinion to electrical safety and safe working on depot; with a potential power on depot of up to 25,000 volts, this is no mean feat.

As one of very few depot drivers, Trevor is authorised to move all class of trains/locos around the depot. Trevor is authorised to drive all sets on depot from the mighty fixed formation 11 car CL390 Pendolino, to the relentless CL08 Shunt engine. Having Trevor employed at the depot with this skill set significantly increases productivity allowing Wembley Traincare Centre to provide full scope maintenance and additional tasking to all its contractual requirements.

Away from the using electrical fluke meters, turning spanners and obeying stop signs, Trevor is an First Aider, Mental Health Champion and Health and Wellbeing Champion. For a stranger to conversate with Trevor about the working at Wembley and its workforce, they would be immediately stuck by his passion for staff wellbeing; Senior and Junior alike. Trevor appreciates the value of an employee to an organisation respecting their make-up as being the business' greatest asset.

OPENING STATEMENT

Trevor has been nominated for the Depot Staff Award because of his attitude, competence and adaptability making him a role model for the current and next generation of railway depot staff, irrespective of their role within the industry.

Having been employed by Alstom Wembley Traincare Centre since 2009; Trevor has progressed from a Team Member A up through the technical branch of the business [P1 to G1 to G2]. Although Trevor does not wish to pursue a future in management, he is keen to work alongside the team within his area of passion: helping others learn. Trevor aspires to become the depots future trainer [technical and operational].

Trevor's presence on depot is invaluable of which much is immeasurable:

No KPI can emphasise the impact of his mental health and wellbeing confidential conversations had with other employees. However, the management team at Wembley are very aware of the positive impact on reducing absenteeism.

No chart or graph can highlight his wealth of technical knowledge that he shares freely amongst all his juniors who are willing to learn.

SUPPORTING STATEMENTS

Ian Faber, Alstom: Trevor started with Alstom at Wembley in February 2009 as a TMA, Trevor then moved to the tech team, by 2012 Trevor had progressed his way up to a G2 tech, which is a great achievement. He was then challenged to support the training department by becoming an official training assessor, Trevor done this in his own time and completed his course earlier this year. Trevor is already a first aider, but when he was informed about the mental health first aid course he put himself forward for the training, Trevor passes the course and has already staff within the depot, making sure these people received the right treatment from occupation health when required, Trevor has also makes sure he follows up with the staff to make sure they are receiving the support required.

Dan Graham, Alstom: Trevor has assisted me in all areas of my own professional development. I am not alone on depot in this. Therefore, I believe Trevor deserves the Depot Staff Award; because of the impact he has on other people, after all, what is a business without its people?

Graham Doyle, Alstom: Trevor's enthusiasm and work ethics are second to none. As mentioned, he has recently qualified as an AQA, originally three members of staff set out to achieve this award but two of them decided they could not commit their time to it and dropped out. Trevor's dogged determination saw him through. This is no mean feat when you consider everything else, he has taken on. Trevor in my opinion is a kingpin at Wembley and truly deserves to be nominated for this award.“
