Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

David McCann

Said the following about Team Anglia - South Rail Systems Alliance:

“The Anglia depot for the South Rail Systems Alliance prides itself on creating a safe work environment for its staff and the public, cross-functional teamwork and on-time delivery. So far in the 19/20 railway year they have delivered over 9000 yards of plainline track renewal, 3 point ends, and 1200 yards of drainage renewal and 5800 yards of re-rail in addition to platform and level crossing enhancements. These figures include a critical 1667 yard plainline renewal across two lines within the challenging environment of Bishopsgate Tunnel, leading into London Liverpool Street station. This renewal was delivered safely and on time over 6 weekends, improving the reliability of the track and minimising passenger disruption. In addition to working throughout the Anglia region the team went off patch to deliver a 618 yard plainline renewal in Wallers Ash near Winchester in the Wessex region. The successful, safe delivery of this job was made possible by all aspects of the delivery teams working together to such a degree that they can continue to perform and rely on one another even in an unfamiliar environment.

With the team being mobilised on a weekly basis to deliver safely out on site the success of these renewals is testament to the thorough planning, resourcing and preparatory work undertaken by both office and site based staff. Once the core works are complete the fact that each delivery team takes pride in their work ensures that their work is made fit for the public and handed over to Network Rail in a timely manner. Delivering track renewals however is only part of what Team Anglia works for, the delivery teams are keen to embrace innovation and sustainability, moving towards plastic-free worksites (using vegan bio-degradable water bottles), reducing printing (with digital SOW packs) and to reduce C02 emissions (for example moving away from diesel-powered generators and lighting). The Anglia depot engage in Volunteering events such as our work with The Tarn Landscape Garden & Bird Sanctuary to give back to the community, the environment and give staff who may not work together directly the opportunity to work side-by-side. The strong bond between individual team members regardless of the discipline they hail from mean that the Anglia depot of the South Rail Systems Alliance have created a team both capable and eager to continue delivering going forward into a busy CP6.“
