Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Jason Berry

Said the following about Scott Guthrie:

“JUSTIFICATION

Scott Guthrie’s attitude from his first day has been excellent. He has always been willing to help and comes to work with a good attitude and positive mindset.

Scott has shown a real willingness and excellent application to complete his course work at college throughout the last three years. Through his own dedication, he submitted work of a high standard, ahead of schedule.

Feedback from his assessor has been consistently good and Scott’s work has been used as a demonstration to other apprentices of the standard that can be achieved.

OPENING STATEMENT

Scott joined Alstom as an Engineering Apprentice and since 1st of April 2019, Scott has been paired with a technical team member - he was given this opportunity based on the potential he has shown to date and the feedback from the technicians he works with has been excellent.

There was one specific incident where a 390 was stopped with an earth fault and Scott worked with a team member A to identify the fault to a specific system – his communication throughout the day was excellent and enabled the train to be returned to service with minimal downtime.

Scott has also shown himself to be adaptable and will make himself available for events outside of his job role – he volunteered to become a STEM Ambassador and has represented Alstom at a number of these events.

Scott is a real asset to the business, his technical knowledge is increasing day by day, he will continue working with Technical team members on CL390 fault rectification when he completes his end point assessment. Scott deserves real credit for making himself the stand out candidate for this training.

SUPPORTING STATEMENTS

Steve Aiton, Skills and competence manager at Alstom:-

“I would like to offer my support in nominating Scott for apprentice of the year

Of the x 9 Apprentices who will complete this year Scott has been head and shoulders in front of his colleagues.

Scott completed his NVQ qualification Rail Engineering Technician Level 3 over 3 months ahead of target with an exceptional portfolio of evidence achieving Distinctions across all knowledge units.

Scott also completed his End Point Assessment portfolio before end of September and is currently awaiting EPA date.

Throughout my dealings with Scott as an NVQ assessor I have found him to be a great example to all other apprentices and I know he will make an excellent Technician.”“
