“Sam Nelson was carrying out late night security patrols at the station when he was alerted to a young female on tracks. Sam requested for a complete block on the line and when it was safe, he walked to the end of the platform, accessed the railway and approached the female. He soon realised the female was bleeding from both arms after self-harming herself. The female was also holding a hockey stick on one hand and a spanner on the other claiming she wanted to end her life. Disregarding his own safety, Sam Nelson engaged the female in a conversation and persuaded her to walk back to the platform where they were met by the BTP and the young female’s mother. She was taken to hospital for treatment and lived to see another day. Sam Nelson is not one to ask for praise, but it is important that he receives the recognition for his actions on that night.“
