Said the following about Rail Safety Week:

“In times where the media, politicians, and industries are guilty of short term point scoring and self promotion, it has been so refreshing to see what can be achieved when people and companies come TOGETHER for the greater good.

Having joined Freightliner earlier this year I felt inspired by their attitude of working together to improve safety and through their networking I became aware of Rail Safety Week on Twitter via the tweets of their engagement manager, Tracey Barber. What struck me from the start was the total commitment to engaging EVERY aspect of the rail industry to work together to educate, learn, and improve.

And they are succeeding.

Individuals and companies are getting involved and every voice and opinion is treated equally, no matter how big or small.

This neutral, not for profit organisation have managed to pause the endless pursuit of self interest, quick fixes and apportioning blame. Instead I have been heartened by just how powerful our industry can be when we stand as one. From the Managing Director of Scotrail, to a Freight Driver in Liverpool, the aim is simple – to support, promote, and improve every aspect of rail Safety for the benefit of everyone.

Every nomination in this category is strong and totally deserving of thanks and recognition. However, I feel the overall award should go to Rail Safety Week in recognition that the biggest changes come when we all work together as one industry. So my nomination is for all those who helped create Rail Safety Week and for every single person and company who has contributed to it throughout the year.“
