“Michelle ultimately saved a young man’s life by trusting her instinct and remaining calm until she got him the help he required.
Michelle is the sort of person that plays down her actions as she feels it is just what everyone else would do in the same circumstances, however this very well may not have been the case which in turn may have led to a completely different outcome.
Michelle was approached by a young man who was acting a little strange. Michelle carried on speaking with the man as she felt something wasn't quite right about the way in which he was acting.
The male wanted to get on the platform to get on the next train out of New Brighton station. Due to how the male was asking Michelle felt this would not be safe for him to do so she advised that she didn't think he was fit to travel whilst still assessing the situation.
The man then made comments about going down to the front beach location and killing himself. Michelle continued to keep the man calm whilst the appropriate services were called.
Michelle gained the young man’s mother's number and called her to advise what was happening. Following the man being taken to hospital Michelle received a call from the mother advising Michelle that her son had been placed into an induced coma. This was due to the large amount of different drugs & medication he had taken.
His mother also said that the hospital had advised her that had Michelle not intervened when she did and by thus keeping her son safe and off the train and from going to the beach area on his own then her son would have died from the volume of drugs and medication his system.
Michelle is someone that has a really good instinct for spotting when someone is in need of assistance and will always seek to help them to the best of her ability. By utilising her inbuilt instinct along with her Revenue Protection training she was able to assist in what could have been a far different outcome for the young man and his family.
She dealt with this challenging situation calmly and her actions demonstrated her commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Merseyrails customers. Michelle had the confidence from her training to deal with this incident as well as possessing the self-assurance to handle the situation sensitively.
We genuinely believe without the vigilance of Michelle, this could have ended in a different scenario. She displayed professionalism and empathy to what was a upsetting situation for all parties involved.
She dealt with both this challenging situation calmly and her actions demonstrated her commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Merseyrails customers. Michelle had the confidence from her training to deal with the incident as well as possessing the self-assurance to handle the situation sensitively.
