Nominations for Rail Project Manager Award

Sue Prescott

Said the following about Matthew Day:

“Matthew has a lead the delivery of the TRU SDP4 programme for the last year and demonstrates a collaborative and inclusive management style which encompasses all the Jacobs TRU team, Network Rail, and all subcontractors. Matthew is approachable at all times, and has a very positive influence on all who are fortunate enough to work with him. I have seen Matthew develop in confidence and ability over the last 12 months and he is often recognised in the staff feedback surveys the client holds every 2 months.

The TRU project provides a broad range of services with circa 120 staff over many business units and is a complex programme and is often challenging, added to this is the difficulty that the Jacobs staff are split across a number of offices. Matthew ensures the involvement of all parties at meetings, safety briefings and stand downs, team events, motivating and encouraging others to take the lead. Demonstrating trust in others at all times.

Matthews leadership style encourages others to enjoy great working relationships within the project team and with the Client, a relationship built on trust and respect and exemplifies the reputation of Jacobs.

At all times Matthew displays a professional approach and rewards and recognised others at all times and encourages others to do so. Matthews day to day performance goes above and beyond my expectations, but below I have attempted to list his key achievements over the last year:-

• A strong leadership style that is friendly, approachable and inclusive with a perfect balance of leading, directing and assertion when required.

• Meticulous planning, commercial and reporting style to ensure Jacobs are covered while balancing client expectations.

• Planning and co-ordination of a team event ensuring all had the opportunity to contribute and be heard.

• Lead the team to achieve an internal quality audit score of 90% and ensured this success was shared with the team.

Above all Matthew is enthusiastic, genuine and cares about the people he works with as well as representing Jacobs in a professional manner both of which come naturally to him. I look forward to him developing further in the role and within Jacobs.“

Said the following about Matthew Day:

“Matt is a well-organised, patient PM who consistently demonstrates good judgement.

TRU is not a straightforward ‘project’ in the ordinary Jacobs sense. It is a large programme with a complex organisation, moving deadlines, ever-changing staff.

These facts should sharply underline Matt’s continuing achievements.“
