Said the following about Karen Brookes:

“Karen has been an asset to Northern from day 1. She always thinks outside the box and has come up with some really initiative ideas to improve processes within the booking office of the area that she works.

Karen came into the company during difficult times and had to deal not only with industrial action but also severe flooding in the early part of her first year with Northern. She hit the ground running and has proved an excellent member of the team.

Karen works at Windermere Station and a large majority of our customers are from the far eastern countries and there is a language barrier which can sometimes prove very frustrating for our customers. Karen will come out of the office and talk to the customers and sign areas where she feels that perhaps customers with limited use of the English Language are struggling. You dont get this type of customer service out of a book to learn she just takes it upon herself to help and assist in any way she can. Karen has also attended courses compiled by the Lake District National Park World Heritage Status to learn more about what the Lake District has to offer for our tourists and this has given her the knowledge to advise our customers more on areas of historical interest.

I feel that she deserves to be recognised for her continued efforts and professionalism that shines when she is on duty at her station. She always strives to go that extra mile and she is a wonderful asset not only to me but to the company.“
