Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Susanna Hamlyn

Said the following about John Wood:

“Throughout John's career, as a signaller with Network Rail, he has continually gone above and beyond in his role to help his colleagues, the operations team and the travelling public. John has done this by a constant commitment to ensuring each new timetable introduced in his signal box (Guildford ASC, Grade 7) is suitable for the public and for the more punctual running of trains - in his own time he has kept in contact with the planning team and pointed out any clashes in the schedule, while keeping management informed. He is the go to person in the signal box for planning issues and also issues the simplifiers for the train service each year, taking it upon himself to highlight any moves that are out of the normal pattern and could cause delays and disruption. This year in particular he has put a lot of effort and free time into making sure the timetable has run successfully, with the least disruption to the travelling public, which is why I feel he deserves this nomination. John has had a very long career on the railway (over 45 years) but always has a positive attitude and is constantly looking for ways he can help the railway and performance.“
