Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Marcell Dent

Said the following about James Kindon:

“James joined Freightliner in 2015 as a level 3 engineering apprentice. From the outset his remarkable hunger to learn and develop his skills has been his benchmark. His outstanding personal drive saw him complete his level 3 course a full year ahead of schedule. His tenacious attitude towards learning and expanding his skills remains undiminished; this is underlined by his progression to a level 4 apprenticeship being a logical step rather than having to be a considered decision.

Currently studying for his Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) and National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in engineering at Doncaster College, James works as an Apprentice Electrical & Mechanical Locomotive Maintenance Technician at Freightliner’s Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Leeds.

His hunger for knowledge, and his keen interest in understanding how things work, makes James a brilliant problem-solver. This was never more important than earlier this year when James managed to resolve a reoccurring electrical fault with Freightliner’s locomotives, which was proving difficult for even some of our senior electricians to remedy.

It was not the first time James managed to wow our Engineering department – in fact, he has regularly impressed his colleagues and was even nominated for Employee of the Month within the first year out of his baseline apprenticeship.

James’ outlook that, at work, ‘only the best is good enough’, continues to impress his managers and his can-do attitude never fails to motivate his team. We are certain that he will reach his career goals and become a Shift Technical Officer (STO) and we are proud to have him on our team.“

Said the following about James Kindon:

“Since James has been on my shift (approximately 12 months) I have yet to speak with him regarding any workmanship issues. Honestly, when it comes to his work, only the best is good enough for James. He is hard-working, dedicated and has a thirst for knowledge which enables him to continue growing and learning in his career.

Throughout 2019 James has been my nominee every month for the “employee of the month” award. This stands as a testament to the quantity and quality of work he produces day in, day out.

As a regular rough Yorkshire man I’m not good with words, but James is a good lad and he will go far in his career. We are very proud to have him on our team.“
