Said the following about Ian Cooper:

“On the 27/08/19 Ian Cooper was cycling home from another job when he came across a suicidal young man on a railway bridge. This bridge is far from the station itself so without Ian's attention and care this young man had no chance of being spotted by railways staff before jumping off the bridge in front of a train that passed minutes later. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to have come across that situation and mange to talk a stranger down from the edge so efficiently. Not only that, Ian stayed with the man until the police arrived to assist that man further.

Interventions happen more than we would like in our industry but equally we would all much rather an intervention than a fatality. What makes Ian's actions even more incredible is that despite not being at work he was in the right place at the right time and he reacted quickly and with compassion.

Another incredible thing about Ian is that he only works for Chiltern Railways on a temporary basis. He is regularly hired as agency staff for Wembley events or whenever we require additional staff. He worked for a length of time at Oxford Parkway as a Customer Service Ambassador, whom are well regarded - the station won National Rail's medium station of the year award in 2015.

I'm certain everyone nominated for this award have stories worthy of this award. Ian absolutely deserves recognition for his actions amongst them.“
