The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Graduate or Newcomer Award

Omar Rizwani

Said the following about Harry Newgas:

“Harry Newgas started on the graduate scheme in September 2018 and has chosen Signalling and Telecoms as a specialism. He has done some great work on Remote Condition Monitoring and Intelligent Infrastructure. Harry has taught colleagues and benefited them through their professional development. Whenever myself or anyone has needed help he has gone above and beyond. As Harry joined the Anglia cohort of 2018 graduates he has decided to take the responsibility of lead buddy which is a huge responsibility in terms of organisation. He has already produced programs which will develop the next generation of engineers and give them the best possible start in the railways.

Harry has also joined in on several STEM activities and has been active throughout schools in South London. As a qualified teacher I can say that his contribution and performance in the schools that he has visited has been exemplary. Not only has he taken his volunteer time to visit schools and actively teach railway engineering, but rather he has taken the initiative and produced his own set of learning resources which he has presented in front of a large group of students. For someone who isn’t a qualified teacher to stand and teach is amazing. This will go a long way to foster the next generation of engineers.

As a fellow graduate I would like to nominate Harry Newgas for the graduate newcomer award. I believe many graduates within Network Rail would say the same about Harry as he is a great individual to work alongside.“

Jocelyn Kacou

Said the following about Harry Newgas:

“When you first meet Harry, he looks very reserved. Having attended many training sessions with him, I have discovered that Harry is what a typical engineer could be described as. Loads of knowledge and humble. What impressed me most however, is Harry's commitment to developing the next generation of engineers. It was while running many STEM events in schools that I discovered a different side to Harry. Ready and willing to kneel down and ensure the kids we met had all the attention they required and had all their questions answered. I generally feel I am good with STEM activities, however, I have learned to appreciate the natural engagement and motivation Harry displays. I hope he wins this.“
