“Jacobs Tunnelling and Ground Engineering Business Unit (TGE Europe) would like to nominate Evie Barratt for Graduate of the Year at the Rail Staff Awards 2019. Evie joined Jacobs in September 2015 from Leeds University having completed her post-graduate MSc studies in Engineering Geology. Her enthusiasm of geology and her willingness to apply her knowledge and experience to railway engineering schemes has made her a firm favourite with colleagues when working on notable UK projects such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), Calder Valley Journey Time Improvement and West Ruislip Northolt Corridor. She was awarded the title of best poster in competition at the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Geotechnical Group in December 2016. In July 2017, Evie was a co-author of the TRU-Leeds University proposals for ground engineering research and presented them at a ‘Dragons Den’ selection panel with senior representatives from Network Rail and Leeds University. The proposals were successful and have obtained finance from Research England and the Department for Transport.
Evie is presently an industry mentor for post-graduates on the MSc Engineering Geology course at Leeds University, and is a TGE Office Champion where she represents the interests of TGE colleagues in the Leeds Office at Company events. She is also the Jacobs Chairperson for the Local Performance Excellence Team in the Leeds Office where she manages a team who judge the technical aspects of schemes/ parts of projects submitted by colleagues from the Leeds Office. Evie is presently leading the production of a Jacobs TGE work experience booklet that will be distributed to all teams in the Rail and Ground Engineering division of Jacobs, the booklet will ensure that work experience students benefit from their visit to Jacobs and help our business units support the students during their stay with us.“
“I would like to nominate Evie Barratt for Graduate of the year 2019. Evie has provided significant expertise to the University of Leeds’ Institute for High Speed Rail and Systems Integration over the past 18 months. She has been instrumental in bridging the gap between the rail industry and existing/future University research. In particular, she has helped devise a range of collaborative projects, aimed at addressing the unique challenges experienced by the Transpennine Route Upgrade project.“
“I am writing to send a short vote of support for Evie Barratt’s nomination for the 2019 Rail Staff Award. Evie has been in our team since joining in 2015, she came into the team with a very positive attitude and is always keen to further her learning and puts 100% into the projects she works on. In addition to delivering on her projects she has managed time to champion other causes in particular the Local Performance Excellence Team and TGE Office Champion. I wish her luck!“
“I have been working with Evie on the California High Speed Rail (CAHSR) project for the last year with a particular focus on the management of the ground data.
Evie has been key to the development of a database for ground data for this scheme. This database has vastly improved efficiencies and quality on the project and is a single source of truth for ground data. Evie has had a significant role in driving the database forward with her extensive knowledge of the project data sources, particularly the lab testing and ASTM standards. The relationships and confidences Evie developed during her visit to the US project offices have been essential to the role out of the database“
“‘I have worked with Evie over the last 9 months on a number of aspects of the California High Speed Rail project. Evie has been invaluable in managing delivery of a number of reports and development of the Geotechnical database. Her role has now evolved to include administration of the GBR reports, liaising between a number of design teams across different offices and the internal client in the US to ensure a consistent approach is adopted and that’s reports are delivered in a timely manner. Evie is an asset to Jacobs, not least because of her positive attitude, attention to detail and technical knowledge allowing her to adapt and grow with the role.’“
“Jacobs TGE Europe has been supporting our colleagues in the US on the California High Speed Rail Project for a number of years. Recently (2018) ownership was taken of the delivery of the Geotechnical Engineering Data Reports for the embankment portions of the alignment and in 2019, the Geotechnical Baseline Reports. Evie successfully worked as part of the team to deliver the Geotechnical Engineering Data Reports but has now taken a significant step up to lead, on a day to day basis, the delivery of the Geotechnical Baseline Reports. Evie is responsible for the day to day liaison with the Jacobs team in the US (across 3 time zones) and manages four teams of engineers in England, Scotland and Poland to ensure the consistent delivery of these reports. She has taken a significant step up in her role in TGE and is successfully working above her grade. She has demonstrated great maturity, composure and technical ability to ensure that the reports are being delivered on time and to a high standard. These achievements have been recognized both by our internal client (Jacobs USA) as well the design build contractor Dragados Flatiron. Evie has shown herself to be an effective ambassador for Jacobs internationally, and the rail industry should recognize her achievements, energy and enthusiasm“
