“I would like to nominate the Driver Training Team at GTR (SN/GX).
I have recently joined the training team which, at the time, the business was going through a period of change and the team were willing to support. During my early days within the team, I was warmly welcomed and given all of the time, support and dedication needed to be an integral part of the team.
They are passionate in ensuring that all trainee train drivers are given the best possible opportunity to develop both their rules, traction and driving competence before completing the next stage of their training programme. The Driver Training Team work extremely hard, often beyond a typical working day to support trainee's where required and are always on hand to accommodate trainee requests. The team have contributed significantly to an amazing 100% pass rate for trainee train drivers in becoming fully qualified drivers on the SN and GX network.
In addition to the above, the team had also supported other areas in the business, more crucially during the London Bridge High Level driver competence project, which was successfully achieved alongside their own workloads. The Driver Training Team worked a mixture of shifts in support of their colleagues which included early starts and very late finishes, being flexible in their availability to include weekends/bank holidays and without any doubt went the extra mile to support customers during an extremely busy and stressful period. This would not have been possible without teamwork and supporting each other.
The Driver Training Team have completed all of this without seeking recognition and continue "business as usual".
I have to say that I am truly privileged to be working with such a dedicated team. They are truly inspirational and consistently work above and beyond to ensure that not only trainee's are fully supported, but also the business are supported where required.“
“The Lifesaver award seeks to recognise those individuals who have intervened to potentially save the life of a vulnerable person on the rail network, and to demonstrate that talking and listening to someone in need can make a huge difference. Samaritans’ aims of breaking down barriers to intervening and the myths about suicide are now imbedded in rail culture with over 10,500 staff trained, while the number of interventions are up by 34% from April 2015. Empowering staff to support vulnerable members of the public, colleagues, friends or family remains a core part of the relationship between the rail industry and Samaritans and The Lifesaver award is an opportunity to highlight this crucial on-going work as well as encouraging rail staff to be champions for our service.”
