Said the following about David Slater:

“Initially joining the Southern Region in the late 1970’s David progressed through many roles before spending many years as the Signalling Section Manager, prior to progressing into senior assurance roles where he has spent his recent years. In his time within the Railway Industry he has seen many periods of change, managed numerous teams and has continually sought to ensure that the railways are achieving their goal of safely and punctually transporting the public to their destinations. In early 2019 David informed us of his intention to retire in April 2019 but has since agreed to prolong his retirement in order to ensure that a suitable successor is found, to see some current projects through to completion and to support with the transition into CP6.

Throughout the nearly 7 years I have worked alongside David he has continually supported our Engineers, Managers, Staff and Supply Chain with the safe and efficient delivery of numerous projects, always seeking to impart his wealth of knowledge onto the Signalling Engineers of tomorrow.

David has supported numerous investigations across the industry during his time at Colas Rail seeking to improve working practices not only within Colas, but also across the Industry as a whole, as well as being proactive in his role as Professional Head of Signalling in challenging everyday working practices and demonstrating an exceptional commitment to continuous improvement.

Supporting our delivery teams with change process and ensuring that lessons we have learnt are shared across the industry whilst ensuring we benefit from the learning of others is part of David’s day to day commitment to improve.

In his time at Colas Rail David has established our IRSE licensing capability as part of a drive to continually raise standards within industry and within our business and he has also supported the development of our Technical Apprentices and Graduates (seeing the first complete each of the new Schemes this year).

David’s willingness to support our staff and future talent has provided a platform on which we have been able to develop our capabilities and provide our clients with a better service as a result, working with apprentices and graduates to help them achieve early career goals, through to supporting and mentoring senior staff looking to make their next step.“
