Said the following about Christopher Harvie:

“Christopher’s quick thinking and preventative actions helped to save the life of a vulnerable person and he demonstrated how important a role people on the frontline of Scotland Railway has.

Christopher, who is a Customer Service Team Leader, intervened to help a distressed customer at a station in August 2019. He stepped in to comfort the customer and usher them to a place of safety until the emergency services arrived prevented the person from coming to any harm.

Christopher, from Edinburgh, is one of over 50 ScotRail employees who recently received mental health first aid training, allowing him to provide guidance and signpost support services to anyone experiencing problems.

The mental health first aiders received extensive training through NHS-accredited material and are able to identify someone who is developing a mental health issue and guide them to the relevant support service.

His brave actions not only saved someone’s live that day, but they proved an inspiration for his colleagues across ScotRail and showed how important the training is. His commitment and dedication to his job is fantastic and he was recognised not only internally within the business, but also in the media in Scotland with multiple news articles highlight his actions.

The importance of this is immeasurable in letting people know that our staff are committed to helping our customers when they need us most. Taking the time to look around a station, particular on busy platforms, is critically important, and Christopher deserves recognition for showing just how important that can be.“
