Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Alan Horton

Said the following about Chris Edmeades:

“Most people make career changes because they want more money. Very few will change to earn less money, work anti social hours and start from the bottom of the ladder when you have a family and responsibilities at home.

Chris made this move. He left his job as a manager with perks to become an apprentice because he wanted to contribute to the development of himself, work in a team of other likeminded young people and learn new skills in a dynamic environment that is changing with the growth and evolution of the railway infrastructure in the country.

His career change has been our gain. Chris has worked professionally and diligently at everything that he has been challenged with from the academic requirements for Maths and English to working nights at weekends under the elements and adjusting and coping with his family commitments including staying away from home. The sacrifice has been immense from him but his potential and commitment is showing signs of maturity and direction. Chris has been dedicated from the start of the apprenticeship programme and is a pleasure to manage. He has been working hard at honouring all his work and learning commitments and makes time to work with and help his colleagues through all his learning achievements.

Over the period of his apprenticeship, Chris has been involved with mentoring a new apprentice. He has worked hard to support him through sharing his own experiences and the knowledge as an apprentice and a trainee. He has had a positive influence within the apprenticeship programme and the team.

He is dedicated and a good role model with a positive ethos for life improvement and success.“
