The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Lisa Gillman

Said the following about Cassandra Sutton:

“Cassie is the Group Station Manager for the central operating section (COS) within MTR Elizabeth Line.

Over the last 18 months she has led recruitment for 150 colleagues and 10 Duty Managers.

She has managed and overseen the training of staff on sub-surface stations assets and regulations as well as surface station procedures. This included Cassie delivering a number of courses herself.

Cassie ensured her team of Station Managers have remained motivated whilst the project is ongoing and this has in turn ensured that the managers can motivate their teams and has utilised the COS staff on existing MTREL stations which allowed them to become used to front line customer engagements.

Whilst many of the colleagues were new to the railway, Cassie encouraged and supported them to complete the Passenger Transport Operations Level 2 training course provided by an external provider, she has worked closely with the provider to ensure that all elements of the course are met.

Cassie was pivotal in arranging “away days” for the COS colleagues, this included working with rosters to manage the release of all the colleagues over 2 away days. The away days had a number of key speakers from around the business with relevant updates to the project, giving colleagues the chance to ask any questions that they may have at the time.

Cassie is always available should anyone need to speak to her, she will always offer sound advice and assist colleagues and managers alike.

In short, Cassie is a fantastic ambassador for MTR and worthy of this nomination.“

Richard Fry

Said the following about Cassandra Sutton:

“Cassie has been instrumental in pulling together and leading on the plans for the Elizabeth line Central Operating Section (COS). This includes building and delivering training, recruiting and developing her team and preparing for stations to be handed over from the Crossrail Project.

While being busy doing the above, she is always happy to help anyone who needs it and will assist anyone who approaches her for advice or ideas. This has resulted in her taking on further side projects that have benefited other parts of the business, and it is testament to her efficient and organised way of working that she can keep all of these plates spinning successfully.

Cassie thoroughly deserves to win this award.“
