The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Graduate or Newcomer Award

Simon Bennett

Said the following about Beth Timmins:

“Beth Timmins joined Network Rail High Speed in September 2018 as a management graduate and commenced what would turn out to be a whirlwind year!

Beth has spent the majority of her year work at St Pancras International Station, firstly as a graduate and then latterly as an operations delivery manager. We put Beth in charge of a passenger benefit fund which is designed to fund initiatives to surprise and delight our customers. The creative thinking of Beth has led to the implementation of some fantastic benefits to our passengers. A personal favourite for me was getting Disney prince and princess character actors to roam around the station during the school holidays wishing kids on the way to Disneyland Paris and other destinations a happy holiday. I am not sure there are many people that can say in their first year in the rail industry they have evoked tears of joy from multiple children! Beth can.

Beth’s personality and charm has been a breath of fresh air and has enabled her to build a highly effective network in a very short space of time and gain respect and admiration from her peers and colleagues. She has helped revolutionise the way we communicate with our wider front line team through delivering and managing a comms screen within our break out area, to redesigning our pre shift brief template and through diligently producing content for the now fabled weekly blog #word on the station.

Beth is relentlessly passenger focussed and has undertaken some seriously impressive customer journey mapping for our mobility assistance proposition. Methodically breaking down each part of the customer’s journey and then looking at it from a pain and gain perspective for the customer, our staff and TOC staff to deliver pragmatic, manageable changes for the benefit of all. She has not allowed a frankly dated and mutli-layered goliath of a process deter her from understanding how she can add value. She really has learnt quickly not to boil the ocean but to make a mean cup of tea instead!

The main reason I wanted to nominate Beth for graduate / newcomer of the year is to publicly acknowledge the Beth for the positive impact she has had at our Station. Despite being just over twelve months into her railway career and slightly under twelve months here at St Pancras, I don’t think there are many of us here that could imagine how we would cope without her input! That I think says it all

Beth – thank you for your continued work and dedication to St Pancras International Station“
