Said the following about Andrew Ford:

“At 05.30 on 20/07/2019 Andy was driving 5P61 to Manchester Airport when the driver in the service coming the other way waved him down and told him there was a female on the track ahead. Andy also spoke to the signaller and proceeded forward at caution until he could see the lady ahead. He stopped and alighted the service as she was clearly very distraught. He spent some time talking to her, showing empathy and building a rapport so that he could persuade her into boarding his train via his cab so that he could get her off the track and keep her safe. He spoke to the signaller and handed her over to BTP at the next station. He had to wait some time for their arrival and again showed great interpersonal skills and empathy in keeping this person safe until BTP arrival. He submitted his report which led me to interview him about it. It was very clear that the female was in a very poor physical and emotional state and that his intervention most probably saved her life. I must add that Andy was very humble about the whole situation, which is a demonstration of how Andy does things for the right reasons and does not seek anything for it.

I submitted Andy for our company reward and recognition and have a copy of this and his report should it be required.“
