The RailStaff Awards 2024

Samaritans are again sponsoring the Lifesaver Award to recognise those people who have gone above and beyond what may be expected of them to help someone at risk of suicide on the rail network.

Samaritans have been in partnership with the rail industry since 2010 and are a member of the Rail Industry Suicide Stakeholder Group (RISSG). They have trained nearly 20,000 rail industry staff with the skills to approach and listen to a person in need on the rail network. A simple conversation can be all it takes to save a life.

Who are Samaritans?

We’re here for people to talk through their worries and feelings by phone, email, SMS and face-to-face visits. We receive more than five million calls a year from people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances. We are not a religious organisation, and we rely almost entirely on donations. Over 20,000 volunteers deliver our service through 201 branches in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

You don’t have to feel suicidal to call us, but we’re also here for you if you do. Around 80 per cent of people who call us do not feel suicidal at the time. We encourage you to call us whenever you feel ready to talk, so that difficult feelings don’t spiral out of control.

If you want to talk, call us free on 116 123 , or to learn more about us and to find your nearest branch visit www.samaritans.org.
