Said the following about Tom Walton:

“Joining Colas initially as a Permeant Way Trainee in September 2016, Tom quickly identified a desire for electrical engineering and made the decision to join the Signalling team as a trainee. Committing to his HNC at college (which he completed last year) was a key milestone in his development and one he achieved with flying colours. Quickly settling into the Signalling team, Tom was quick to begin challenging the norms, providing the spark for many improved processes we adopt as standard now in everyday business. From the early days Tom has always been willing to support and help others, he is keen to learn from those with more experience, but also often able to “teach an old dog new tricks” and is now respected by the entire team as an innovator, change champion and reliable member of the team.

Recognising the need for improvements comes naturally to Tom, and his POP light (a device to build on the Till Dawn lamps designed and built by Tom) is about to receive product acceptance and to become embedded into our site procedures.

Despite his relatively few years on the railway, Tom is always willing to go above and beyond in order to support his colleagues and to solve problems.

Tom’s achievements in his 3 years on the railway have been nothing short of incredible, he has instigated meaningful change in many areas of the business, supported other with innovation and change all whilst developing into a competent and respected signalling engineer.“
