Anthony Warne

Said the following about St Pancras Safer Station Team:

“Over the last year this team has been dedicated to improving the safety of staff at St Pancras International Station. They have been working alongside the BTP and the Station Staff themselves to combat the issues they have been facing. Since being on site assaults on staff have reduced drastically and they have assisted in implanting a zero tolerance policy with regards to rough sleepers in the Station. While on site they have dealt with a number of violent and vulnerable persons which is improving the station staff morale as they know they have assistance should they need it. They are also on hand to assist commuters should they need it both as a security presence or customer service if they need help getting the right train.“

Said the following about St Pancras Safer Station Team:

“I was with the Land Sheriff this evening and they were showing me what their duties are in St Pancras. They were dealing with crowd control, a potentially vulnerable passenger, vagrancy, verbal abuse, drunkenness and unfortunately a violent member of the public. The violent member of the public resulted in the two Land Sheriffs (Josh and Leon) having to restrain the member of public for 15 minutes while awaiting BTP attendance on Platform B. The BTP arrested the individual, especially as he became violent with them. From my opinion the Land Sheriffs were extremely professional. Leon has restrained a number of people, including while working at St Pancras and for Josh this was the first time he has had to do so. To give an indication of how professional they were, after the person had been arrested, and on leaving the sub-surface station to be interviewed Josh noticed a female passenger (who he had previously carried out a vulnerability check with) still sitting on the floor and he once again wanted to check on her (we found out that between the two checks the passengers wallet had gone missing). This shows how committed the two Land Sheriffs were to their responsibilities. Perhaps it was because I was experiencing this the first time, but I do think that Leon and Josh performed really well. I don’t believe we should ever expect our stations operations team to have to do what the Land Sheriffs had to do. Also, the stations operations team on shift were very helpful and supportive throughout the night, not just with this event but with the Thameslink service disruption, where they had to give extra support to the Thameslink team. This night was definitely and eye-opener for me.

I’ve given my thanks to Leon and Josh, but I wanted to put this onto your radar and for your consideration.“
