“Southern and Gatwick Express Timetable Champions Team consists of: Chris Whiting, Karen Morris, Lee Kibble, Scott Blezard, Austin Wilson, Heather Radford, Lee Williams, Carl Soutra, Daniel Defer, Imitiyaz Hitler, Stephen Knight, David Smithers, Jose Flemmings, and David McCaighy.

In advance of the timetable change in May 2018 a team of 14 Timetable champions were nominated across Southern and Gatwick Express by their line managers and given the enormous challenge of internally briefing every single one of their operational colleagues about the change – what it mean for them and what the change would mean across Southern and Gatwick Express.

From the very start, each champion showed real commitment to the challenge, helping identify how best to achieve the final result, and how the approach would work best in the operational environment they know so well.

As with any big change, there were many hurdles to overcome throughout the project, however, they showed incredible energy, drive and enthusiasm for championing the change and wanting to make a true different. They travelled up, and down across the network at all times of the day and night, 7 days a week, to make sure everyone received a face-to-face and role specific briefing.

Normally based at a station, driving a train or on board, each champion jumped feet first into a very different role than they’re used to. Individually they displayed true team work, support for each other and working together.

True dedication and team work saw them brief 98% of their colleagues (that’s approximately 3000 people), across 150 different locations in less than two months, with 90% of customer facing colleagues surveyed saying they felt better prepared for the change – a staggering achievement!

The team have received praise from across the business for their efforts, both from their peers and management, for delivering above and beyond.“
