Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Said the following about Simon Ring:

“We would like to nominate our manager Simon Ring as Station Manager of the Year.

Mr Ring has been at East Croydon for around 4 years as a station manager. During this time he has always been very helpful, knowledgeable and approachable.

He has been an invaluable help during various medical emergencies at East Croydon, which is a very busy station. One of the many incidents that stand out in our minds occurred approximately two months ago, when we were made aware of a passenger taken ill on a train. Before emergency crews arrived Simon was there to meet the train as it arrived into the platform. It quickly became apparent that the passenger was seriously ill. Because of Simon’s previous background knowledge as a paramedic Simon was able to administer CPR until emergency services arrived and then continued to help the paramedics for over two hours.

He is always there to help staff when needed. His door is always open.

He is always doing his best to support and help the staff at the station, whether this is with practical help such as arranging emergency annual leave or just being there to listen to our issues and concerns. When you speak to Simon he manages to make you feel better about any personal or professional problems you may be having. Even though Simon has his own health issues he is always there to help others and will always go the extra mile.

Simon is always willing to help out our passengers. With the introduction of Rail Plan 2020 Simon was always on hand to offer support and solutions to passengers who were inconvenienced by the new changes. His help on those occasions meant that a lot of pressure was taken off our shoulders.

We highly recommend Simon for this award as his service to the rail industry especially at East Croydon has been outstanding.
