Said the following about Samantha Wood:

“I believe that Samantha deserves this award because she risked her own life to save a suicidal woman by removing her from the track and bringing her to safety she showed care and compassion and listened when no one else would, she stayed by her side and awaited authority to arrive. She then saved her life once more. Samantha emotionally remaining calm and poised, she comforted her in her time of need and was able to safely carry out a duty of care to this woman and much much more, she saved a life twice and deserves commendation for her brave and honourable efforts. She is a great asset to her company. I know Samantha very well and know she would do this again without a second thought even though this experience was very traumatic, and myself coming from a family who know the true damage and loss suicide can do, she done this woman, her family and her company proud.“

Said the following about Samantha Wood:

““I have nominated Samantha due to her amazing successful and quick thinking approach with a very suicidal female.

The female in question was very distressed and adamant that she “just wanted to end it all” Samantha risked her own life an jumped into action as she approached the women, whilst a colleague cautioned the line, after a long talk Samantha managed to persuade the lady to safety and of the track.

Samantha took the lady to a safe distance from the track and to the far end of the car park and they both sat on the wall together, Samantha showed compassion and willingness to listen to the lady in a time where she felt alone and disconnected and that nobody would listen, the lady was very distressed and upset an even still very adamant she just wanted to end it all as she could not cope any more, Samantha engaged with this lady for a very substantial amount of time, whilst waiting for BTP to arrive.

Whilst waiting for BTP the lady had got very distressed at the thought of police attending, and tried once more to take her own life. Sam still remained calm and respectful and with great composure, although this ordeal was very distressing and alarming and physically draining, she tried to reassure her that they are only here to help and that she wasn’t in any trouble.

Whilst waiting for BTP, who took almost 45 minutes to attend, and all relevant emergency services, Samantha had managed to build a rapport and the lady had seem to calm down a considerable amount, the lady pulled out a book with family photos that where alongside her suicide note and together they went through the photos.

Samantha made it her duty to understand and go above and beyond for this very vulnerable lady not only did she save her life once but twice, regardless of this being very distressing and uncomfortable and physically mentally and emotionally draining Samantha never gave up an continued to remain calm an professional, and was committed to comfort and help this lady in any way possible.

A VERY WELL DONE TO YOU, you should be very proud of what you have done and how you handled such a distressing situation.““

Said the following about Samantha Wood:

“I would like to nominate Samantha Wood for the LifeSaver Award following a harrowing ordeal which resulted in a successful intervention at the Station.

An individual was seen in the foliage of the cess past the north end of Platform. Samantha went to investigate and found a distressed lady who had concealed herself in the cess. Sam managed to engage with the lady whilst a colleague put a caution on the line. The lady was very, very distressed and insistent on "ending it all."

Through Samantha's approach and engagement with the lady she managed to talk her to the platform to a position of safety. Samantha spent a considerable amount of time talking to the lady.

When on the platform in a position of safety, the lady was still intent on taking her own life. Samantha was intent on getting the lady away from the railway and through time and understanding was able to coax and walk the lady to a further position of safety on the station carpark.

Samantha managed a harrowing ordeal proactively, sensitively and more importantly successfully. It was evident that this lady was intent on taking her life on our railway and Samantha's heroic actions on that day had a positive outcome for all involved. I don't feel that any amount of thanks from personnel in business could ever thank Samantha for her actions that day and I believe she is thoroughly deserving of this nomination.

Since this event, Samantha has seen the same lady enter the station and Samantha was alert straight away. On this occasion, the lady was travelling with a companion and boarded a train. Testament to Samantha for recognising this lady again.“
