Said the following about Raymond Sheldon:

“Whilst on a routine patrol Mobile Operations Manager Ray Sheldon noticed a male sitting in the track facing the direction of oncoming trains. Ray knew he only had a short time to prevent a tragedy - and even though he is very experienced Ray was shaking with fear. Ray knew what to do and got an emergency switch off and stopped on coming trains. With the railway safe Ray was able to approach the male - and he began talking to him, making a human connection, talking about the things that we all have in common. Ray kept his attention whilst the BTP were on route. During the conversation Ray was able to get the male to leave the track and get to a safe position away from the railway. The male shook Ray's hand and thanked him for his effort as he knew that without Ray his life would have ended that day.

It's amazing that we have staff that have been on the Samaritans training and are able to use that training in real life situations to save people's lives.“
