Said the following about Neil Fisher:

“Neil is an excellent, dedicated, highly skilled, highly experienced and highly educated Health and Safety professional. He truly loves his work and loves educating people on best health and safety practices. Neil has nurtured his team and has been pivotal in creating an excellent safety culture; he pushes us all to be better every day, to look after ourselves, each other and our environment. Neil has a close relationship with the Engineering team, helping us achieve safety by design and helps us to assess risk early in the planning stages of our works, enabling us to design out or manage risk effectively. Without him, the quality and compliance of our work would never be as high as it is. He is always willing to give his time to give advice and to help people develop. Neil has been a major part of introducing and implementing a robust yet easy to use environmental risk assessment tool and Environmental Management Plan to works delivery, giving the team’s training and support throughout its implementation. As with most health and safety professionals Neil has felt undervalued at times, he undertakes a difficult and sometimes thankless job, and he definitely deserves recognition for the amazing job that he does.“

Gez O'Donnell

Said the following about Neil Fisher:

“Safety and Performance can often be in conflict yet in Neil we have an individual who embodies the safety vision of Safe delivery of work. Since he has started working for ourselves I am absolutely convinced that staff have gone home safe everyday who potentially would not have if we continued as we were prior to his arrival.

Neil's passion and engagement is clear for all to see, what sets him apart is not only that he challenges ourselves on safety but he educates. He literally makes us better everyday.

Neil's particular passion has been occupational help which has been driven by his experience of his father who worked in the mining industry and subsequently suffered from lung disease and white finger. Both of which certainly are a risk for staff working in the rail industry. with this in mind Neil reviewed all the dust masks we had available on the system and found many were not fit for purpose which he had removed, this was followed up by the face fit testing of all front line staff delivered by Neil himself.

Neil has done all of this while still improving himself in his free time which has culminated in him gaining his Chartership of institute of occupational safety and health

Events like these are a breath of fresh of air in the rail industry, the norm is we a very good at sharing bad news, accidents and incidents. This is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise good people. In the case of Neil you will not find a more worthy and deserving candidate.“
