Said the following about Mark Byatt:

““Mark has had a massive impact on the graduates. He has a way of making people understand, provides reassurance and gives them the confidence to succeed. Mark has made a huge difference and it’s great to have him as a mentor on the graduate scheme.” Richard Giddings - Graduate and Apprenticeship Manager, telent

A senior project manager himself, Mark Byatt leads by example. Involved in the telent graduate scheme assessing potential new intakes, guiding them through the programme and welcoming them into his team, Mark has mentored circa 30 new graduates – supporting and helping develop the next generation of Project Managers.

Known for his patience and structured approach, Mark spends time with each graduate, explaining the vision and processes, ensuring they understand, encouraging and giving them the confidence to succeed. If they need help, Mark always finds time and has guided struggling graduates to gain their confidence and flourish.

“Mark has been my manager for the last 3 months and he has changed my whole outlook on project management. He is a great leader, communicates his vision and has spent time with me to make sure I understand what we are trying to achieve. His structural approach to management gives you ownership of tasks, confidence in performing, to try new things and he has helped me by guiding me through the process when I have needed it. Mark sets clear tasks and objectives that enables you to progress, develop and integrate with the immediate, wider and external team - I fell very supported by Mark and I know others do too.” Olu Oluwole - Graduate Project Manager, telent

Mark leaves no stone unturned during the graduate training. He involves the graduates in all aspects of project delivery including financial, programme, health & safety and site works providing support and guidance throughout. This helps them to gain the practical skills and real-life experience they will need in the future under his mentorship.

His team motto could easily be “there is no such thing as a stupid question”.

With a calm and approachable attitude, Mark has successfully delivered high-profile projects in pressurised environments including Crossrail.

Mark is relaxed and approachable. He has an incredible way of engaging people, understands and is compassionate to his team’s personal needs which creates a loyal and hardworking atmosphere. He gives people the guidance and confidence to succeed.

His attitude and work ethic have earned respect from his colleagues and customers with many wanting to work with him again. Which is why Mark is a worthy nomination for this year’s Learning and Development award.“

Richard Maries

Said the following about Mark Byatt:

“Working with Mark as CRE on a number of project deliveries is a pleasure in both the core project delivery role and also in supporting and mentoring graduate engineers.

Mark has actively supported the use of graduate engineers and developed an excellent working environment to help progress and develop the engineers by allowing the graduates to expand their experience with real-life engineering tasks and problems supported by the wider engineering team. This support is provided with full understanding of the additional constraints and potential impact associated with using short and medium term graduate placements as part of the engineering process.

The freedom provided by the working environment has help develop some excellent engineers who have gone on to win national awards including previous winners of the Railstaff Awards Graduate of the Year.

Marks attitude to the training and his relaxed approachable attitude helps myself and the rest of the senior engineering team to fully support the aims and aspirations of the telent Graduate scheme for both the Project Management and Engineering Graduate schemes.

Richard Maries – Lead Engineer (Station Comms).“
