Said the following about Lucy Marshall:

“Large organisational changes to systems and processes can take a long time, especially when they impact people. Lucy has transformed risk management at Network Rail High Speed in a relatively short period of time. Lucy’s tireless work has taken the business from an outdated model of ‘the risk manager manages risk alone’, to an environment where process owners use risk to prove that they are doing the right thing.

This type of change would normally take years to embed, but Lucy has coached, upskilled and encouraged staff at all levels of the business to understand and utilise risk to drive improvements throughout the business. The clarity and understanding that Lucy has provided meant that everyone is involved and now have greater understanding of not only risk, but what it means to them and what their role to play is.

In addition to this, Lucy has taken her personal learning a step further, by studying for an International Diploma in Enterprise Risk Management with a view to bringing more specialist knowledge to the business. This has been done with very little study leave and at a busy time in Lucy’s personal life. Lucy takes the sixth and final exam at the end of this year having already successfully completed the first five modules.

Lucy was recently shortlisted for Network Rail’s Risk Manager of the Year award, and narrowly missed out. Rather than resting on the work and engagement already achieved, Lucy is now driving forward an ambitious plan to achieve greater risk maturity in the 2019/20 period, with an overarching target to exceed scores achieved by our region by 2020/21.

We believe that Lucy is a fundamental part of our QHSE team, who relentlessly strives to improve at great pace, without compromising on quality or detail and we can confidently say that the work outlined above has, and will continue to, improve the safety and reliability of our business moving forward.“
