Jemma Quin

Said the following about Kim McGuire:

“Kim informs, reassures and solves problems for the public that are affected by the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Program and SDA projects. She has communicated with railway neighbours along the full length of the Edinburgh to Glasgow and Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa branches of the railway in Scotland. She goes above and beyond her communication role by showing passion and dedication to her work. Often she works late into the evenings (past her contracted hours) dealing with the public at times which suit their works schedule. She promotes engineering and rail safety by organising school talks and build a bridge work sessions. She personally visits vulnerable rail side neighbours to ensure our works do not affect them. For example we needed access to a blind resident's garden to install a perimeter fence. She made sure the site team cleared up the garden after each work period allowing hazard free access for the resident each evening. She organised a site visit for local school girls in Stirling to promote Women in Engineering day. She also looks out for her colleagues. She asks them about their day and generally cheers people up (myself included). She also deals with harsher comments from angry members of the public which are affected by our works (e.g. road diversions). She does so with elegance and grace and a positive attitude. She really cares about their concerns and brushes off any personal verbal attacks as if it’s nothing. She is a true professional and an unsung hero of rail. Without her, the project would have been stopped due to bad publicity and too many public complaints. The project would not be as successful without her.“
