Said the following about Kier Redhill Signalling Renewal:

““Collaborative behaviour: an open and transparent approach between the team members, with the NR client as well as with other contractors and designers (S&C Alliance, Bam, NR designer). Collaboration included sharing information and providing information in advance of IDC meetings and continues with this spirit every day.

Forward thinking: a good understanding of the railway constrains and early implementation of the Vortok Safety fence initiative that enabled work to progress in a safe and efficient manner. Use of simple and effective innovations such as

• Use of SigMALP lightweight track trolley. Fast mobilising and demobilising the trolleys, assisting collaboration on a busy site

• Cable recoveries using GRP sleeve. The sleeve is placed around the cable being recovered and run along the length to the termination location. This guarantees that the wrong cable has not been picked up erroneously.

• Use of cable drum handling yoke. Handling and running cables turned safer and 20 times faster with using the yoke

Enthusiastic team members: enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated from all team members, in particular with raising the level of site supervision during possession weekends. This included 95%attendance of site team members distributed on days and night shifts during week 9 (Bank Holiday weekend) & 11 (10&11June) possessions.

As said from NR client

“Well done to Kier team as Principal Contractor managing weekend works and all parties involved in making this stage a success for Redhill project”, NR Scheme Manager

“Thank you for Kier collaboration and support in making the possession work for all other parties.”

“A big tick in the box for the programme”, NR Project Manager.

Network Rail, the client, is facing the challenge to deliver in advance of the contractual terms with Kier and having to coordinate contractors of different disciplines. Kier team understood the pressing need of the client, agreed a programme of delivery that enables NR to meet his deadlines, and took the lead in defining and implementing clear customer promise and a client experience. The team committed to the new programme from very early stages and at all levels and achieved it by being committed, proactive and highly collaborative with the client NR, other contractors and the maintainer of the railway during possessions.

Redhill Station Signalling Renewal Team is delivering zero harm & zero HIPO incident and “Best-in-class” SHE performance. Kier team implemented simple steps such as the pre installation and maintenance of the Vortok fence to enable all parties not only Kier to work in safety behind safety fence during the operation of the railway.

The Vortok initiative described above is a very early in time implemented proactive safety step that enabled Kier to continue meeting a demanding schedule and go beyond the contractual obligations to meet the client’s needs as those defined in the contract.““
