Said the following about Jason Robder:

“Jason was the first person to arrive at the station where a SWR driver had a very distressed woman on board his train who he had previously picked up near the tracks. Jason was able to encourage the distressed woman to leave the train to enable the train to continue its journey. The emergency services hadn’t arrived on the scene so Jason needed to keep the woman company and offer her emotional support. Jason took her into a place of safety and stayed with her for over an hour until support arrived.

I spoke to Jason following his life saving intervention and he was very adamant that the actions of the train driver made the difference. Jason got the name of the train driver so that I could recognise his contribution to the life- saving intervention. It is undoubtedly true that this was a joint effort but Jason’s contribution is equally important because when Jason arrived at the station without the support of the emergency services he immediately took control of a difficult situation and stayed with the distressed person until help arrived. That act of human kindness and offering support to someone in desperate need saved a life that day and that’s why I’m nominating Jason.“
