Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Karen Mccann and Sophia Danielsson-Waters IC Team

Said the following about James Palmer:

“We've worked with James for the last four years and he continues to impress us as he furthers his rail career. When working with us at Greater Anglia, he was a key member of the Smart Card team, launching East Anglia's first smart system. He proactively sent us communications pieces every month for the internal magazine. He really recognised the importance of internal communications and the concerns of our colleagues and always took feedback on board. He was passionate about the project and the launch was greatly successful. As part of the rollout, he visited numerous ticket offices to embed the smart project, which is now being continued by our great team here at GA. He made a real impression here and we were sad to see him move on - he was a diligent and enthusiastic member of the Commercial team, and it was really refreshing to work with someone so positive.

It was a delight to work with him again this year after his move to CrossCountry, where he is currently their Distribution Manager. We've worked together on the Cambridge-Stansted Airport route, where both GA and XC operate, to make operations seamless for our shared passengers. We think this is a really good example of TOCs working together for the benefit of our customers.

On another note, James has a real passion for railways and this really inspires fellow colleagues and customers. In his spare time, he runs a heritage charter train company, running vintage trains for rail enthusiasts across the country. He really is a true railwayman!“
