The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Glen Merryman

Said the following about Iesha Kelliott:

“This nomination is for a truly remarkable young lady, who came to GTR on a Princes Trust Get into Railways programme, Southern as so lucky to have such a determined young lady who shows great passion for the Railway.

Iesha joined GTR back in April having came through the Prince’s Trust “Get Into Railways” Programme, during this course Iesha stood out as the shining light from day one all the way through her placement at London Bridge, to the point where the staff were very keen to keep her at the station on a permanent basis.

Despite only being with the business for a couple of months Iesha was more than willing to attend the next course in order to share her experiences with the new candidates and pass on her advice, all this was done in her own time and throughout her attendance she displayed a thoroughly professional attitude and was a superb ambassador for GTR and the opportunities that we offer.

We have received exceptional feedback from the course facilitators regards Iesha and I believe this highlights her as someone who demonstrates our values of excellence as she was prepared to dedicate her own time to help others and also working together by supporting our ongoing partnership with the Princes Trust

“I just wanted to email you regarding Iesha Kelliott. Iesha was on the February Prince’s Trust course and is currently working on the Southern route at London Bridge. Iesha came into the programme to feedback and share her journey to the current course. I have to say she did this with a level of confidence and grace that she should be recognised for it.

Iesha took questions and spoke about the attitude she adopted for placement and her job role.

All of the young people were very interested and fired a lot of questions, all of which Iesha answered clearly and concise.

Iesha is an outstanding Ambassador for herself, Gtr and the course and what it can achieve.

Please pass this on to her manager”

Kind Regards

Programme Executive Get into | The Prince's Trust

“I met Iesha today while delivering the current Prince’s Trust/GTR programme. She attended (on her day off I might add) to speak to our current cohort about her journey from Taster Day to her current role within GTR.

I was massively impressed by the way she approached the session. She explained about her time on the course, both in classroom and on placement, and then answered questions from the group for around 25 minutes.

She gave knowledgeable answers that showed how much she has learned and how much she is enjoying herself. Her enthusiasm and honest delivery made an excellent impression on the learners.

She was humble, honest, very positive about both the course and her employer, and showed tremendous composure.

She is a shining example of what can be achieved with a little help and a lot of hard work, and I’m sure she will be an exemplary employee throughout her career.

Thanks.”

Paula Hilliard- Programme Manager GTR-

This young lady is truly remarkable, her passion for GTR and the Railway is such a pleasure to see. She really has helped young people who join our Get into Programme see what opportunities are available. She delivers these session to young people with grace and honesty about her life, her struggles to find a job and her determination to be a successful young lady.

She has filmed for the DFT in a hope that other Train Operating companies see how working with the Princes Trust is such a great thing to do. The defining thing about Iesha for me is her Passion. She not only has a passion to be a great employee she has a passion to share her story to help other young people.

Her story has such an impact on the young people it really is magical when you sit and hear her talk to a large room of young people. For someone so young, using her own struggles to find work to help others for me is a remarkable thing to do. She volunteers over and above her normal day job.“
