Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Said the following about Ian Stevenson:

“Ian never ceases to amaze staff, colleagues and passengers at a very busy Bristol Temple Meads.

Ian goes above and beyond and 1,000% miles further to support all staff groups with his "can do attitude". He naturally assesses the support an individual colleague needs and continues enabling, that individual to shine brighter with plenty of encouragement, support and in a delightful but professional manner. There is always a smile, please try of reassurance and staff feel confident as a result.

Many staff members have joined the rail family at Bristol Temple Meads from diverse backgrounds however, this never phases Ian as he provides support to those too. He was incredibly supportive when I joined the rail family from an NHS background.

Ian is a real gentleman extremely humble and will never accept praise referring to those he has worked with during that particular shift. Consequently, he is a very valued and popular member of staff which Bristol Temple Meads is extremely lucky to have.

The rail supervisor role is a very busy one but, he also seeks naturally to make it a very pleasant one for any form of passenger/staff member. He regularly supports Customer Ambassadors, passenger assist team and anyone that enters Bristol Temple Meads. Ian's Standards are extremely high and he has the energy of a 1,000 workers and rarely (if ever) complains. Staff are very reassured and enjoy working with Ian.

Ian has a lovely demeanour with all our passengers with all our passengers and most shifts is either carrying some luggage for a Customer, pushing those in a wheelchair, guiding those who are partially sighted or providing anyone with travel information and support.

However, if needed he will be firm with a Customer if they are not treating a staff member particularly well (in line with GWR gems and Values).

To describe Ian overall is very hard to put into words but, if you can imagine all your best workers multiply by 500,000% then you have a measure of how good he is.

Ian deserves this award so much for all of the above reasons and more. He is a rail supervisor in a trillion!!!“
