“On 31st, May, 2019, British Transport Police were called to a report of a female sat on the railway lines. Prior to the arrival of police officers, VITAL patrollers arrived on scene having been alerted by Network Rail control. On arrival, they quickly identified the female’s location and Gary Coulter spoke to her and manged to negotiate with her to get her to a place of safety so that she could receive the help she needed. Without this early intervention the situation could have been very different as the female was intending to end her life. Thankfully, due to Gary’s calmness in what was a very difficult situation, the female was moved away from danger and she received the treatment that she required. At the time, the female was a high risk missing person who had been reported missing to Durham Constabulary. A police helicopter was out searching for her. The police officers who dealt with the incident believe that Gary was instrumental in saving the life of the female.“
“Outstanding intervention made at Croxdale Viaduct. Calmness, empathy and professionalism shown throughout.“
