Said the following about Garry Taylor:

“I have known and worked with Garry now for over seven years, and in that time, Garry has undertaken various roles at Intertrain. In a short time period through being driven and focused Garry has progressed in his career at Intertrain from a trainer/assessor to Directorship.

Garry is pleasant, approachable, experienced and extremely knowledgeable with regards to railway engineering. Training and quality assurance are strengths and skills he has developed across his careers spanning 20 years in rail.

Garry currently heads up Quality and Compliance for Intertrain which given the operational delivery we undertake as a business is a large and complex task, particularly as we strive to meet high expectations and demands of our customers and learners. Governed by a number of bodies such as NSAR, City & Guilds, EAL, MATRIX and ISO, every day brings about unique challenges and Garry is extremely proactive in his abilities to ensure quality is always delivered to the highest of standards.

Over the previous twelve months Garry has focused his team on development of quality, and with backing from the board has put in place an experienced and robust team.

In forging these partnerships with local and national colleges, governing bodies, other providers and local authorities, Garry has successfully integrated a quality management system that is fully compliant to OHSAS 18001. During 2019, Intertrain has achieved ongoing ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, MATRIX, Ofsted, ESFA, City & Guilds, NSAR (gold) and Ofsted audits and inspections ensuring that intertrain remain a provider of choice for our growing customer base.

Teaching & learning and Safeguarding have been two of the most challenging topics that Garry has had to focus on as part of our 2019 quality improvement plans. Undertaking training himself alongside one of our partners has enabled him to implement standardisations and internal training events that have offered unique development opportunists to our teaching and learning staff. He is keen to lead by example ensuring that development opportunities and training sessions are fit for purpose before they are provided to operational teaching & learning staff. In turn this has seen significant improvements in observations conducted by external parties with most trainers now meeting 'outstanding' sessions. Garry supports staff with robust development plans to achieve 'outstanding' T&L results along with monthly resources to aid embedding of British values, safeguarding and prevent to both staff and to learners. Recent Ofsted monitoring visits concluded that for first time inspection, Intertrain are making 'reasonable progress' which is an excellent position for us to be in.

Without Garry's leadership, skills, experience, drive and ambition the results we have gained across the previous twelve months may not have been possible. With this in mind, as well as the professional relationship we have built over previous years I recommend that Garry is recognised for his achievements and is considered for this award.“
