“Doug was called to the station to reports of a vulnerable young female sat with legs dangling over the platform edge. He first made sure that the lines were stopped to traffic, then approached the young female. The young girl was obviously very distressed and shivering with cold as she was not appropriately dressed. The girl had stated that she had been sat there for ages and that nobody had come to assist her. She stated that she had wanted to go in front of the last train, but had been scared. Doug engaged in conversation with the girl, but she didn't want to move. Doug gave her his jacket to keep her warm. Doug continued to chat to her for 15 minutes before the police arrived. The girl then moved to a position of safety with the police and Doug stayed to help the girl talk to the police.
I genuinely believe if Doug had not intervened that day, the girl would've indeed, stepped in front of the next train through the station.“
