Said the following about Derrick Smith:

“On the evening of the 3rd September Derrick was going about his business floor walking. He was approached by a lady who told him that there was a chap on one of the overbridges who was extremely upset. Derrick went round to find that this chap was climbing on to the banister to gain access to the top of the bridge and so the overhead lines. This chap told Derrick that he had had enough and could not live without his partner he had had an argument with. Derrick quickly grabbed this chaps legs to stop him getting any further while all the time trying to reassure him that everything would be ok. The BTP eventually arrived but because Derrick had built up such a rapport with the chap they let him carry on talking to him while being on standby to take over if anything turned. Derrick persuaded the chap to climb down whereby the chap then broke down in Derrick’s arms thanking him for being such a great person.

Derrick you are such a kind and caring person, you deserve all the praise you are receiving so please be very very proud of what you have done.“
