Nominations for Project Manager Of The Year

Michael Buckley

Said the following about David Whiteway:

“David played a key project management role in the Penzance Depot project (a £23 million scheme jointly funded by Network Rail & Cornwall Council). This was a highly complex project, not just from a technical perspective but also from a commercial point of view.

David managed the commercial interface interfaces between both funders and GWR, ensuring there was clarity of cost ownership for main contractual work as well as contract variations and time extensions. His primary objectives were to ensure that:

I. Project risks were contained within the CAPEX contingency (circa £1, 4 million).

II. Funders agreed final cost allocations

III. GWR were not exposed to any disputed or unforeseen costs.

The costs were finally settled amicably in Sep ‘18 and all three objectives were achieved, due to David's diligence and tenacity. This took many hours of analysis and stakeholder meetings to achieve and was not in any way straight forward.“
