Said the following about Daniele Mandelli:

“I'm nominating Daniele for this award because is incredibly caring and is always willing to go the extra mile when it's needed. An example of Daniele's nature is when he was on a late turn he received a phone call from control regarding a suicidal person at the station.

Straight away Daniele sprang into action, getting a train approaching the station to reduce his speed and advised the driver to proceed towards the station with caution.

Daniele then rang back control to obtain more information on what the person looked like, he then identified the person on the platform again advised the driver to proceed at caution and keep a look out for him.

As soon as Daniele was able, he went out to the platform and spoke to the suicidal person. Daniele has got a calm and reassuring personality and after a short while calmed the person down. Daniele then took him back to the signal box gave him his meal and something to drink and just talked to him while waiting for the police to arrive.

Unfortunately the male was homeless and had mental health issues but with Daniele he had a shoulder to cry on.

This simple act of human kindness changed a life that evening for that person and Daniele should be really proud of the difference he made.

With the actions Dan save the MOPs life the train service then became safe and no operational issues with the train service other the one train running under caution into the platform.“
