Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Tom Jerome

Said the following about Connor Philpott:

“Connor consistently demonstrates what self-motivation and ambition can achieve.

Connor is a 4th year Apprentice and started as an Apprentice with Govia Thameslink Railway in 2015, and is working towards a Level 3 Traction & Rolling Stock Apprenticeship. From first meeting Connor it was clear he would make every effort to succeed and learn as much as possible, he did not prove us wrong! It was clear from day one that Connor was and has continued to be an extremely self-motivated individual.

Connor achieved distinctions in all units whilst studying a BTEC level 3 in Engineering, and was awarded Apprentice of the year. It was an easy decision to put him forward to continue studying at College.

Connor not only excels on training courses but also makes every effort to ensure he goes the extra mile to fully understand the systems he needs to work on. Connor has not only become an expert in many of our fleets systems but has also shared this advanced knowledge with many of our depot maintenance teams and fellow Apprentices. Connor is a clear example of how an Apprentice can enrich the workplace by creating new ideas and challenging existing staff to remain on top of their game. Connor has been determined to ensure he is involved with the most interesting and highly technical systems during his Apprenticeship, often giving up his own time to do this.

Connor has demonstrated that if you are prepared to work hard, anything is achievable, and he is a great example to our newest apprentices.“
