Said the following about Christopher Brazier:

“Christopher Brazier is a key member of AECOM ETE team in Swindon. He joined the team in September 2014. He was selected under the Apprentice Scheme in collaboration with Wiltshire College. He has successfully completed a HND with distinction in 2017. He is now a full time ETE/E&P design engineer within the team, responsible for the design and delivery of complex S&C renewal sites. He was selected as runner up Apprentice of Year in 2017 for his exceptional design work on Wessex Capacity Upgrade project.

This year Christopher has shown his dedication and proactive behaviour for the design and delivery of Southampton 6 Stages ETE works at Western Docks. The ETE alterations at Western Docks are part of a wider Southampton Train Lengthening Project, funded by Freight Liner. The total design cost is the in area of £1.5M.

Christopher was assigned the task of picking up the ETE Design of Southampton Western Docks renewal at a very short notice, whilst at the same time being the designer on Fratton Depot ETE works. The Southampton Western Docks design had been critically changed from being completed in two stages to now work through six stages, essentially tripling the work load and directly increasing the required project package required for the construction time. With a crucial construction deadline fast approaching, he ensured that all the previous draft design drawings and reports were up revised to meet the new construction requirements of six stages and finished to the expected detail and quality. He managed his time to ensure that the design met standards and quality criteria ready for fixed submission dates as well as ensuring other projects such as Fratton Depot ETE met critical submission deadlines. It was essential that he communicated effectively with Signalling and Track designers to ensure designs were updated accordingly to meet the six stage requirements as well as ensuring discipline designs interfaced efficiently, hence safeguarding an effective construction process. He had very effective and clear communication with Network Rail for understanding their requirements and highlighting the risks to the project. Overall, the design was delivered as a six stage design package, for construction, on the deadline set in the programme, whilst also not hindering other projects requiring submission in this work period through competent work planning and proficient time management.

Christopher fully understood his responsibilities and the tight time scales for delivering the staged submissions. He has been carrying out dialogues with Permanent Way (Track) designer and also with signalling team regarding the block joint arrangement and negative bonding plans. He has also actively represented ETE in IDC meeting chaired by the CEM.

Throughout the design process, he has been very proactive with incorporating checking comments and comments from permanent way and signalling team. He has revisited the relevant applicable standards and has applied the standards and best practices to the design.

The CRE (Apeksha Patel) and CEM (Matt Horan) are very impressed with his diligence and commitment for delivering the project.

Christopher has a bright future at AECOM as he continues to gain valuable skills on a variety of projects and will be passing on his knowledge and experiences to others in years to come as he progresses his career as an Electrification and Plant Engineer.“
