The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

David Hillhouse

Said the following about Chloe Hinder:

“Chloë is the Founder and Chair of Greater Anglia's new Women in Rail Group - Up!

The group was created to help empower women in a male dominated industry supporting those around her and throughout the business to achieve their full potential.

In her own time, outside of work, Chloë was able to formulate a vision and goals for the group along with likeminded individuals who helped refine these before presenting Up! to the Managing Director Jamie Burles. His statement published on Greater Anglia's website highlights his belief in the company's new group:

“Greater Anglia is committed to diversity, equality and reducing barriers to progression, so HR Director, Katy Bucknell, and I, were delighted to give our full endorsement to making the group official so that everyone across the company can benefit. As an industry we are focused on attracting more women to the railway as a diverse workforce is a better workforce.”

From formal endorsement, Chloë and her team have used their network of influential individuals both female and male to build the foundation for a group that could and would support employees throughout Greater Anglia. Her determination for change, charismatic approach and engaging speeches to colleges of all levels have seen the business's awareness increase volumes in the short space of time that Up! has been operating.

Up!'s launch event in May saw the Department for Transport's Jane Cornthwaite attend and speak to a packed out open space in Greater Anglia's head office alongside Chloë and her fellow founding members. Since this event, membership to the group has grown rapidly with hundreds of colleagues - both males and female - joining the cause.

The group has also been recognised with an article in Passenger Transport and have been interviewed on BBC Essex Radio. The awareness within their own business has been increasing but across the industry, people are becoming more aware of the group championing change!

Chloë should be the Rail Staff Award's Manager of the Year 2018 because she is driving positive change throughout her business with a team of likeminded progressive individuals, assisting in the movement towards and equal rail industry for all.“

Said the following about Chloe Hinder:

“Chloe is young, bright and very talented.

Working in a man's world, Chloe introduced a women in rail group to Greater Anglia which has found serious legs this year with a launch event with a key note from Jane Cornthwaite from the DfT.

Chloe pioneers innovation and is always looking for ways to modernise her working environment including finding better and more efficient ways of working. She has completed many courses in her work and personal time including being an Innovation Catalyst who travels round the business encouraging other departments to find solutions to active problems.

She is supportive and empathetic, she is confident and driven, and she is professional and friendly.

Chloe will go very far in her career and is already a huge success with a great reputation. Working alongside her is a genuine pleasure.“
